Warm Line

Picture
The Warm Line logo with the tagline, "Connection and hope we can share. Call us."
The scaling down of a "Warm Line" currently provided by Mental Health America, San Francisco is impacting counties throughout California.  PowerPoint (MHA SF)

Since its launch in August 2014, the Warm Line has taken over 94,000 calls, averaging more than 3,000 calls per month over the past year, and as many as 130 calls in a single day.  Of the 94,000 calls, 70,000 are from California. Over 86% of all calls are from repeat callers, demonstrating the depth of the personal connections that the Warm Line provides. However, this lifesaving resource is at risk of closing by June, resulting in the layoff of dozens of paid peer counselors and other peer program staff.
  • Helps avoid the crises, hospitalizations and deaths of thousands of people with mental health challenges.
  • Minimizes the need of emergency and crisis services.
  • Warm line callers reported a reduction in the use of crisis services and a reduction of feelings of isolation.
  • Recipients of peer support services experienced increased social networks and wellness
  • On MHA SF's website is a counter showing the number of calls from different counties (SCROLL DOWN the page to see the counters):   http://mentalhealthsf.org/programs/peer-run-warmline/
  • It currently operates 7 days/week, including public holidays.
