Elections

The following is a suggested process for annual elections.
A) Nominating Committee: In advance of elections, it is good to form an ad hoc Nominating Committee. The purpose of the ad hoc is to discuss who they recommend to be on the slate for Chair & Vice Chair (one recommended member for each position). It is best as an ad hoc so that they can freely speak about the qualities they see in individuals that make them good candidates. It is good to allow members of the Ad Hoc Nominating Committee to nominate themselves.

B) Confirm with Candidates:  The Ad Hoc Nominating Committee should confirm that their recommended candidates will accept the nomination before firming up the slate.

C) Election: 
  1. Agenda Item includes the Slate: List the Ad Hoc Nominating Committee's recommended slate as an agenda item. 
  2. Announce & Open the Floor: The chair of the Nominating Committee could briefly state the nominees and mention that the floor is open to additional candidates.
  3. Vote: If there is no contest (only one person for each position), there could be a motion to "Accept the slate as presented." OR If there are multiple candidates for a position, it is best to vote on each position individually.

The california association of local behavioral* health boards & commissions (cALBHB/C) supports the work of california's 59 local behavioral health boards and commissions by providing resources, training and Technical Assistance. 

Local boards are responsible** for reviewing public behavioral health needs, services, facilities and special problems, and serve in an advisory capacity to local governing bodies and local behavioral health directors. ​
